Becoming a mom is a life changing experience. We can never really fully prepare ourselves for what is ahead of us as we embark on the journey of pregnancy and delivery. But once the baby arrives, our motherhood instinct plays a crucial role as in raising our newborn onwards.
But just when you are starting to get used to your child’s routine, and your baby is about to grow out of infancy, you might begin to hear people asking about your plans for the next baby. Of course, this decision is entirely up to you and your spouse, but it is highly important to know the signs that you are ready to have your second child.
You are physically ready. Research shows that a woman who has just given birth needs 2-3 years for her body to fully recover from pregnancy and giving birth. If the mom had a C-section, she should consider that there are less chances of a normal vaginal birth for her second child. The mom should be healthy and fit for another pregnancy.
You are financially prepared. Having a second child means additional expenses. The family has to be ready to adjust financially for the needs of the additional family member. Expenses would include living expenses, food, school needs and others.
You are psychologically set. The mom should be set with the idea that she will even have less time for herself once the second baby arrives. There will be more challenges ahead as she will not only care and nurture for one, but for two or more. Another child will definitely change the lifestyle routine, so the family should be prepared to handle the changes.
You and your partner agree. This is of utmost importance since having another baby alters the life of everyone in the family.
If your answer is yes to all the statements mentioned above, and your instinct tells you that you are ready, then maybe now is the best time to have another child in your family. Happy parenting!
