It’s that time of year. It’s back to school once more. My eldest is an incoming Grade7 student and my youngest is an incoming Grade1 student. Time flies!
But what I will share with you isn’t about back to school. It’s about Summer 2016. Oh what a great summer it has been for my kids. ????
Talk about a life changing summer.
When Anya was younger, she was gregarious. She wasnt shy. But as she grew older, she became a bit shy. Her height had something to do with it. For an 11yr old, Anya stands tall at 5’5″. She’s already as tall as me! She felt awkward and didnt embrace her height so she didn’t walk tall. In tagalog, it was called ” hukot maglakad ” . When she had her period at age9, she matured fast. Apart from the deepening of her voice & all the other physical changes that went along with the puberty, she also became quiet. She expressed herself through music. Summer of 2015 she learned to play the guitar & took voice lessons.
She did so well during her 1st guitar & vocal recital, performing infront of people, an audience she didnt know. She surprised us greatly as her performance playing ” Lost Boys” on guitar & vocals showed a girl who wasn’t shy at all. She transformed onstage.
Earlier this year, she surprised us again during her 2nd vocal & guitar musical recital. She sang ” Carousel “. But just minutes before performing onstage, she was bitten by the nervous bug and she was crying. But Julius & I assured her that everything will be alright and gave her encouragement that she can do it. Even seasoned performers get the jitters onstage. But Anya has done it before- performing for a live audience. She can do it again! And she did! She showed great aplomb when she performed for 5minutes onstage. Attagirl Anya!
Things really changed when we enrolled her at John Robert Powers this May. On her 1st day, she wasn’t too interested. For her, they were ” just classes ” . She wasnt expecting much from herself too.
Lo and behold, just after 1 wk of JRPclasses ( that’s 20hours) we saw a marked improvement on her already. She was more poised & confident ! She was already walking with a straighter back, with a better posture.
Another week passed, and Anya learned more from the very helpful JRP modules. From basic table manners, social etiquette, personal hygiene, putting on makeup, dressing up, model walks, posing for the camera, voice projection, etc. All these had an amazing impact on my daughter !
And come JRP annual talent showcase night, i posted this caption on my Instagram :
#WhenYouWishUponAStar ⭐ #ReachForYourStars ⭐???????? Allow me to share with you my Stagemom moments tonight- i was there seated amongst the audience, many of them proud parents too!
Anya has often been on the shy side.
Altho she did several tv commercials, print ad & magazine shoots, and tvguestings when she was younger, she grew up being shy. She expressed herself mostly thru art & music- playing the guitar while singing. ???????? One cause of her shyness was her height. At first she didnt embrace the fact that she is quite tall for her age: 5’5″ at age 11.
She was shy to walk tall.
That’s why when we enrolled her at #JohnRobertPowers Classes this Summer, we half expected that she would choose the modelling portion to showcase her newfound confidence in walking with a straighter back, with more grace & poise.
But she surprised us when she chose instead to do hosting chores for the show.
And surprise us, she did! Pwede ngang host!
She told me she chose hosting because she was inspired by me and daddy @juliusbabao.
Wow, thank you Anya! ❤???? Good Job ! we love yah! You make Daddy and I so proud of you!
Thank you, Hosting Coach Mildred of John Robert Powers for guiding her. ???? #AnyaBabaoForJRP #fantabulous @caitlinrecana @juliusbabao @anyababao #AnyaBabao June4,2016
And guess who was her #1 fan that night! My 6 year old Nio ! He was seated beside me, and each time his dear Big Sis Anya would come out onstage, he would cheerfully shout out ” Ate ! ate ! ” with matching big wave! Nakakatuwa. Little Brother so proud of his Ate Anya! #superheroNio
What an awesome Summer for Anya. Truly lifechanging. From a shy girl who just needed a little coaxing out from her shell, to a lovely, confident, tall, smart and beautiful pre-teen.
You make us proud Anya! I love you so much, My Mini- Me ! ????????❤
