For Lang Leav and Maine ????????
( Sad Girls ) ( Yup I Am That Girl )
On this day that Maine will formally launch her phenomenal first book, ( already sold out many times over in bookstores long before the formal launch date) and just in time for the Tamang Panahon Anniversary )
I decided to share this blog, first as a gift to Maine & her legions of fans since this is about Lang Leav, Maine’s favorite author. ????????
And second, as my humble tribute to one of the greatest writers born in our time, Lang Leav.
I feel very sad that I couldn’t make it to Maine’s book launch. Of all days naman, I have back to back committments – two events actually on this day , Oct 26 . One, for a Student Summit in Manila and the other, hosting chores for the AUB corporate event. Maine’s booklaunch in Quezon City starts at 5pm. My calltime for hosting the corporate event in Pasay is also at 5pm. My event starts at 6pm. So, #Paano?
If only I can duplicate myself so I can be in both places … then again, i don’t have the power to bi-locate !
Not meant to be.
Last month Maine had personally messaged me and invited me to come to her book launch. Thank you, Maine.
I shall forever treasure that message of yours. I apologize with sadness, that I would not be there.
I guess it wasn’t really meant to be.
To Mike U. , thank you also for considering/suggesting me to host the booklaunch. Regrets that i will miss this milestone.
But l have read the book. ???????? some of its pages twice, thrice!
and it’s such a joy to read it !
Maine’s writing is witty, funny, intriguing, revealing.
Maine’s book is “ unputdownable “ !
#YupIAmThatGirl will make every fangirl’s heart truly happy-giddy . ????
( Will write a mini-review of the book and its chapters when I find the time and I shall share it with you guys )
Meeting Lang Leav
June 21, 2017
“ Remember, your words are your power. Never forget your words. “ – Lang Leav
I would always see Poet & Author Lang Leav’s books on the bestseller’s list and on the Bestseller’s shelves of bookstores.
I would browse thru pages and pages and before I knew it, I was halfway thru the book. I was also amazed by her beautiful sketches, Lang being an ultimate artist.
That was about 2 years ago, my Memories of discovering Lang Leav.
The book I read was : Memories
( signed by Lang on 6/21/2017 )
I rediscovered Lang again thru Maine’s twitter post. It was Valentine’s day I think, and that special post was shared by Maine & retweeted by the Aldubnation so many times that my social media feed was filled with the poem that Lang especially wrote and dedicated to Maine & Alden as her Valentine gift for my favorite loveteam . ????❤
Stars In Love
” We are stars that fell from glittering skies, to find each other here
before light was measured in years…
( I love Lang’s sketches. She did this very cute sketch of Maine ❤)
Because her poems are so beautifully written, are timeless and appeal to all nationalities, Lang has such a strong & loyal fan base worldwide. The enduring theme of her writings are about Life & Love.
Us Filipinos are such a romantic race that we absolutely love Lang’s works.
Lang recently released Sad Girls, her first foray into writing novels. Sad girls is a story of the highs & complications of teenage love, of friendship, family conflicts, the delicate topics of depression and suicide.
Written in an unpredictable manner, you will never guess easily how the story ends.
It surprised me too! It is really a page turner.
No matter what happens, love will find a way.
Last June 21,2017 I had the blessed opportunity of meeting Lang for the first time at the Raffles Hotel which was her home during her Manila visit. She had returned to the Philippines this time to promote her latest book , Sad Girls in Manila & Cebu. ( both venues for Lang’s meet and greet were filled to capacity by Lang’s loyal and adoring fans. Once again, Lang was touched by the warmth of hospitality of her Pinoy fans )
During the booksigning at Glorietta Makati, Lang even kept the #1000 stub, symbolizing the 1000th person who waited patiently for hours & fell in line to meet Lang and have her book signed. Lang kept the 1000th stub as a sentimental souvenir.
Thanks to Ma’m Xandra Ramos-Padilla and Ms Loraine Lopez of National Bookstore, I got invites to an intimate meet & greet with Lang.
Like any true blue Lang Leav book fan, Maine wanted so much to meet Lang for the first time. I was messaging Maine and she was really hoping for a window of time to meet the writer who inspires her.
Unfortunately, her schedule that day didn’t pave the way for her to meet Lang. It wasn’t the Tamang Panahon for these two born writers who inspire each other to meet & have some bonding time.
For fans of Lang Leav ( yours truly included) what follows are excerpts of my 30-minute, larger then life moment
meeting & chat with Lang, recorded on my phone, as we were nestled in a quiet corner at the lobby cafe of Raffles Hotel.
My Daughter Anya is inspired by Lang Leav to become a writer too !
Hope you enjoy ! Read on :
( CBB: Christine Bersola Babao
LL : Lang Leav)
CBB : Thank you Lang for this moment. Today is June 21,2017 . I am meeting Lang in the flesh, infront of me now, for the first time. Ive been a fan for two years, a two year old “ baby fan “ – baby because I only discovered your works two years ago, first inside the bookstore, and second , because of the fan base you have.
Maine had a big big role in how i became a fan.
You know the Aldubnation, right?
LL : Yes! I love the Aldubnation. They’re the most loveliest, wonderful people and they’ve been so supportive and I’m really grateful .
CBB: When Maine started to tweet about you and then the Aldubnation would retweet, what made me buy ALL your books was Maine. And then I got hooked with your books.
LL : Im so happy, thank you.
CBB : Thank you, Maine, thank you Aldubnation.
Do you get requests for you to write poems about Alden & Maine?
LL: I get requests every now and then. Michael and I try to write something when we can.
Michael wrote one for the wedding.
( Notes : the Aldub-Kalyeserye Wedding ) ( More side notes : previously posted on twitter by Michael Faudet, the said poem is now published in Maine’s book)
Being a huge fan of Lang & Michael, Maine devoted several pages of her book to them & their especially dedicated poems for her and Alden.
CBB : what was your inspiration when you wrote Stars in Love?
Lang: Ive been sort of, talking back & forth with Maine, and someone ( a fan) said , “can u write Maine a poem? “and i said ,
if Maine wants me to write a poem for her, sure, and then she ( Maine) said, “ I’d love that!” and that’s what I did – and for
CBB : and your writing is as phenomenal as they are. You haven’t met them right?
Lang: oh no ( not yet ) but I feel like i know them, like I know you.
CBB : Aww, thank you Lang.
You and Maine are both terrific writers.????
LANG : I’ve read some of her stuff and she’s really talented. ( me: super agree ! )
CBB : what is your message to Maine? It’s also her dream to become a novelist.
Your dream of becoming a novelist has come true with #SadGirls
LANG : yeah, it took a long time to get there. I started writing it in 2013 and finished about a year ago ( 2016 ) .
To Maine, just take one step at a time. One page at a time. And you’ll get there in the end, and it will all be worth it when you get to the end.
More About SAD GIRLS:
CBB : you said here that every first novel is like a semi autobiography because a part of you is in the novel.
So what part of you is in the novel?
Are you an Audrey, an Anna, or Lucy?
LANG : Im the Lucy!
CBB : the sensible one!
CBB : Why is it important for you to touch base with your young fans?
LANG : I just really love having that daily interaction with my readers. They’re just so supportive and encouraging, I just cant thank them enough. It’s just a wonderful thing.
CBB : Im a mom of a 12yr old, and you told me that Sad Girls is meant for an older reader, say 18yrs old and above. But readers of semi-adult fiction or novels are getting younger these days. Your fan base are young people. What is your message for the young readers who will get to read Sad Girls?
LANG : get your parent’s permission because there are some things in the book that are for older teenagers. Sad Girls is a work of fiction, and something you should enjoy as a story. Fiction is a playground to explore other worlds , but it’s not necessarily reality.
( as a Mom, I make sure to guide a young reader like my daughter Anya, and explain to her the depth & meaning of Lang’s writings)
CBB : what’s next for Lang after Sad Girls, your highly successful first novel ( still on the International Bestsellers List months after its launch )
LANG : I’ve got a new Poetry and Prose book coming out in February #newbookalert guys! ????
CBB : woohoo! Valentine’s ? ❤
CBB: awww your Filipino fans would be excited to hear this piece of great news!
Lang’s new book on Valentine’s Month!
CBB : what can you say about the Filipino Fans in particular? You know how Fllipinos are, we’re so passionate!
Lang: yes! Very very passionate! I think I’ve just always had an affinity with this country.
I was blessed to grow up in a multicultural neighbourhood.
Many of my friends (including my neighbours!) were Filipino.
So I developed a love of Filipino food and culture early on in life
CBB : you believe in Destiny right?
LANG : Absolutely !
CBB: would you write another poem for them if ever they get married in the future? ????????????????
LANG : Absolutely! I would love to!
That would be wonderful ! ????????????????
( and already we , the Aldubnation are all jumping with joy and preparing our oxygen tanks ! )
CB : You draw the words out of our mouths, out of our hearts and out of our souls, and put them on paper, in the pages of your books. ????????????
Thank you for your words, Lang.
You impact our thoughts and lives in more ways than you know.
The power of your words are your lasting gifts to us, your book fans. – xoxo
I personally handed over to Maine the books signed & given by Lang especially for her .
Us Girls, Fan Girls. • #Sad Girls and #YupIAmThatGirl are hitting the bestseller charts on all bookstores.
Congratulations, Lang and Maine. ???????????????????????????????? We super duper love you !
PS . Will be writing a separate blog about Maine’s book soon ! ????????
